Dr. Dooley and Dr. Craig Plaisance of Chemical Engineering were recently awarded a grant from Louisiana FUEL (an NSF ENGINE), “Adsorption-based chemical looping process for production of H2 and SO2 from H2S” for $150 K.
Dr. Dooley and Dr. Anurag Mandalika of the LSU Center for Energy Studies were recently awarded a grant from the Institute for Energy Innovation (primarily funded by Shell), “Sustainable Aviation/Maritime Fuels from Biomass Residues in Louisiana” for $150 K.
Drs. Dooley, Mike Benton (Chemical Engineering) and Roger Laine (Biochemistry) were recently awarded a grant from NSF, "Chemical Synthesis of a Natural Product Family of Compounds with Uses as Insect Repellents, Especially for Deer Ticks" for $550 K. We are working to streamline and optimize the synthesis of the nootkatone family of insect repellents, in part through the development of better catalysts for the key step in the synthesis, which starts with beta-pinene.
